Oysters Abundant!
Today is 8/25/18, and these pictures are from 4/10/18. I wanted to share them in anticipation of our re-visit to the area tomorrow at the Hood Canal in Washington (b/w Seattle on the east side of the Olympic peninsula.) It's also my birthday next week, and I'm so grateful to have my parents here to celebrate with me in this harvesting joy.
I have been imagining revisiting this area with my father, now 80 years old, ever since collecting oysters here in 4/2018. He loves raw oysters, and they are abundant in this part of Washington.
I was in such awe of the number of oysters present and the fact that you can pick one up, shuck it, and slurp it down right there on the beach. A little cocktails sauce or lemon would have been nice. We'll bring it this time along with a portable stove to full enjoy our beach picnic of raw, roasted, and pan fried oysters.
Solveig, my 7 year old daughter, 6 at that time, even tried them. Not a fan.... Yet! First she had to figure out the shell wasn't the tastiest part.
Kajana, by 4 year old, gave it a lick, but not too much beyond that.
We stopped by Hama Hama oyster farm before we knew where to collect them on the beach. We'll have to recreate this somehow on the beach when we go this time.
I actually find the oysters to be quite beautiful, but also ugly. Hard, sharp, but super soft salty and sweet on the inside.
